Government Approved Model House

The Government of Nepal (GON) has published 8 different earthquake resistant model houses for rural areas of Nepal. GON had also circulated new Building rules last Asoj
after the Earthquake of 7.9 Richter Scale. The earthquake victim can build one of the 8 Government Approved model house.

The Government had announced the Aid of Rs 2,00,000 (2 Lakh) for each earthquake victim whose house were completely destroyed by the massive earthquake. The government has stated that this aid can be used only for building houses as per the 8 government approved model house  In this approved design, there are 2 model house that are one storey and other 6 are of 2 storey.

Earthquake Resistant House- Model 1:

Floor: Ground Floor Only

Family size: 3-5 person family

Rooms: 2 (4M X 2 M)

Balcony: 1.5M X 6.5 M

Materials Required:

• Stones 4m3
• 141 Sacks of Cement,
• 24 m3 Sand,
• 9 m3 Gavel,
• 2.2 m3 Wood
• and 4.5 Bundle of galvanized corrugated iron sheet (जस्तापाता)

Earthquake Resistant House- Model 2:

Floor: Ground Floor Only

Family size: 1-3 person family

Rooms: 1 (  4M X 2 M)

Balcony: 1.5M X 4 M

Materials Required :

• Stones 35m3 ,
• 92 Sacks of Cement,
• 24m3 Sand.
• 9 m3 Gravel,
• 2.2 m3 Wood
• and 3 Bundle of  galvanized corrugated iron sheet (जस्तापाता)

Earthquake Resistant House- Model 3:

Floor: 2 Floors

Family size: 4 person family

Rooms: 4 (Ground Floor: 2, 1^st Floor 2) (  2.65m x4.3m)

Balcony: 1.5M X 6.35 M

Materials Required:

• Stones 48m3 ,
• 187 Sacks of Cement,
• 29m3 Sand,
• 10 m3 Gravel,
• 4,5 m3 Wood
• and 4.71 Bundle of  galvanized corrugated iron sheet (जस्तापाता)

Earthquake Resistant House- Model 4:

Floor: 2 Floors

Family size: 3-7 person family

Rooms: 6 (Ground Floor: 3, 1^st Floor 3) (  3m x 3m – 2 Rooms 2.1 x 3 m)

Balcony: 2.1m X 3m

• 200 Sacks of Cement,

• 879 Kg Rod,

• and 5 Bundle of  galvanized corrugated iron sheet (जस्तापाता)

Earthquake Resistant House- Model 8:

Floor: 2 Floor

Family size: 9-10 person family

Rooms: 4 (Ground Floor: 2, 1^st Floor :2) ( 3.3m x 2.7m)

Floor 3: Open Space

Balcony: 3.3m X 2.1m

Materials Required:

• Stones 132m3,
• 504 Sacks of Cement,
• 81m3 Sand,
• 31 m3 Gravel,
• 2814 Kg Rod,
• 2m3 Wood

RCC Slabs are used in this house. And this is the most expensive government approved model house that has been designed.  And for all house design Government will provide 3 Lakh of Aid and extra expenses should be borne by the owner.
